A native Buffalonian, Monique Owens joins Open Buffalo as the Documentation and Learning Specialist (DLS). As the DLS, she is responsible for capturing and telling the story of the Open Buffalo movement and the change that it is producing. Prior to joining the team, she worked in many capacities related to coalition building and government affairs, including as Government Affairs Associate for the regional chamber of commerce, Community Advocate at the Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House and Legislative Aide for a Buffalo Common Council member. Through her participation in the Open Buffalo Emerging Leaders program in 2015, she expanded on the tools and skills needed to effectively serve as a catalyst for change.
Monique graduated from the University at Buffalo, earning a B.A. in International Studies and Global Gender Studies. She is currently a graduate student at Buffalo State College, pursuing a master’s degree in Public Administration.
