BUFFALO AFL-CIO/WNYCOSH Safety & Health Committee Meeting
Presenter: Dr. Wajdy Hailoo, Project Director, Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine
The Buffalo metro area suffers from a sharply elevated rate of deaths from asbestos-triggered disease, according to an analysis of federal mortality data and calculations by international cancer researchers. The analysis by Environmental Working Group Action Fund found that from 1999 to 2013 Niagara County had almost three times as many asbestos-related deaths annually as the national average. Cattaraugus County's asbestos death rate is more than twice the national average and Erie County's rate is more than 65 percent higher. An open, facilitated discussion to follow. RSVP to (716) 833-5416, or Lizsmith@wnycosh.org.
