In late January, an unjust and inhumane executive order barred citizens of seven Muslim countries from entering the United States. Following this order, immigrants have been detained at airports across the country. That same week, the White House also mandated reporting crimes committed by immigrants on a weekly basis.
This vilification of our Muslim, immigrant, and refugee brothers and sisters is furthering the hostility that already exists towards these groups.
Buffalo will not tolerate such hate and propaganda. The City of Good Neighbors will not contribute to the demonization of immigrants and refugees. With open arms, we welcome all human beings into our city.
On Sunday, February 5 at 1 p.m. at Columbus Parkway West in Buffalo, we will rally in solidarity with our refugee and immigrant brothers and sisters. We will gather with our neighbors to talk about how these policies impact our city, and what we can do to combat them. We will have refugees and immigrants talk about their experiences and why it is crucial that we take action to protect their rights.
This doesn’t end with one event, as rallies and protests are an important and significant part of our history, direct action must be taken to make a difference. Join local organizations that fight for the rights and civil liberties for refugees and immigrants. Pressure our local politicians to make NYS a Sanctuary State. Demand that NYS fill the budget gap for resettlement agencies. Donate to our resettlement agencies, volunteer with the organizations, learn how you can take direction action to make a difference.
Rally with us on Sunday to show that you won’t stand for this extreme hate and learn how you can become involved, change the world we live in, and help our incredible refugee and immigrant community.
