On February 8th, john a. powell, Director of the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society and Professor of Law, African American Studies, and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, will deliver a free public lecture on equity, inclusion and the built environment. As an internationally recognized expert of civil rights and civil liberties with an eye towards processes of exclusion and inclusion, his scholarship and work speak to movements for justice and equity in Buffalo. The lecture will be held in Hayes Hall in the School of Architecture and Planning on South Campus and is open to all (RSVP not required). AICP credits available.
john a. powell will be in residence at the University at Buffalo from February 6 - 10 as the 2017 Will and Nan Clarkson Chair in Planning. The Will and Nan Clarkson Chair program in the School of Architecture and Planning invites distinguished scholars and professionals to campus for lectures and seminars that engage students, faculty, practitioners and members of the public in knowledge-sharing, scholarship and debate on critical issues in architecture, planning and design. Additional support for this event is provided by the Food Systems Planning and Healthy Communities Lab at the University at Buffalo; National Institute of Food and Agriculture; Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo; Partnership for the Public Good; Massachusetts Avenue Project; Coalition for Economic Justice; and the Crossroads Collective.
The lecture will be good for 1.5 Certification Maintenance (CM) credits for APA members (pending approval). Sign-in sheet and other information will be provided for interested APA members at a table outside of the event.
