While the dominant narrative says that Buffalo is back and the "State of the City" is strong, it's not the story that many people experience on a regular basis. Historically marginalized and vulnerable populations, including communities of color, poor and working-class families, and LGBTQ folx are under constant threat of being displaced from their homes and neighborhoods.
This event will focus on real solutions to our city's most urgent challenges. The OUR CITY coalition and its members will discuss the need to fully fund public transit and public schools, preservation and advancement of frontline arts and cultural centers, safety for undocumented immigrants and other vulnerable populations, affordable housing and inclusionary zoning policy, as well as climate solutions, community control of land, investment in worker cooperatives and other economic development strategies that promote localism and collective ownership.
If you'd like to be a speaker, please contact Harper at harper@openbuffalo.org. This event is free and open to the public. Youth encouraged to participate!
