On August 5, at the Buffalo Central Library, the Public Service Commission is hosting a public forum to hear from real people about phone (landline) and Internet service. Telecommunications companies are cherry-picking wealthy pockets of the city and surrounding suburbs to build state-of-the-art networks while letting infrastructure crumble in less "desirable" neighborhoods. This is a big problem for vulnerable populations like the elderly who rely on landlines and rescue services such as Lifeline Medical Alert, and small businesses who need to run credit cards and need fast up/download speeds to be competitive.
