Last month, New York Education Commissioner John King, Jr. gave instructions to two Buffalo Public schools that have shaken both the students and the community.
Residents, parents, and community leaders have come together to petition Commissioner King to meet with the community that is directly affected by the upcoming education funding decision on the evening of August 8th at Lafayette High School at 7:30 PM.
With so many critical issues facing the education system and children in Buffalo, officials need to listen to the community. The laws call for community members and leaders to work together to shape the future of our children.
So the community has called on Education Commissioner King to listen to the stories of students, parents, and civic leaders, asking him to take action to: restore full funding to Lafayette and East High Schools, fund restorative justice in both these schools, and work with Lafayette to provide language access through translation.
Read the full petition or add your name to the growing list on the Groundswell site.
The petition will be delivered to the Commissioner on August 7th.
