From our partners at the Clean Air Coalition:
PUBLIC MEETING ON HUNTLEY COAL
NOVEMBER 17TH
The Huntley coal plant in Tonawanda has announced it will retire March of 2016, joining hundreds of coal plants like it across the country.
This announcement was confirmed a few weeks ago, when the New York State Independent System Operators (NYISO) determined that Huntley is not needed to maintain the reliability of the electricity grid.
We have been organizing for 2 years to make sure that this retirement is not at the expense of regular working families.
Huntley currently pays a total of $6 million in revenue our local municipalities. About 75 workers work at the facility, which operates on the Niagara River.
Join us on next Tuesday, November 17th at 5:30pm at the American Legion Broundshidle Post (3354 Delaware Ave.). to make sure workers and our community is protected during this transition.
