Silver Light believes that the current state of politics requires us all to be active, engaged and positively contributing members of our communities. It also requires us to be educated about our place in the world, and how local, state, national and global politics, schools of thought and ways of being affect us and our communities, on a physical, mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual level, to effectively shatter systemic oppression and its side effects, she says. Light hopes to become a leader who bears these qualities and helps to foster the same in others, so that we can create the change we need in our communities.
From the Emerging Leaders program, Light has gained an education in organizing and social justice, a group of people to continue reimagining the world with, and strategies for shattering oppression in the aforementioned ways, to small and large extents.
