Emerging Leaders Class of 2020

Martha Zimmerman is currently a 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher. Equity in education drives her pedagogical practice as well as her advocacy for a culturally relevant education. Martha’s community organizing efforts grew out of her activist experiences while living in Portland, Oregon. Martha returned to Western New York to pursue a Master’s degree in education. Her strong desire to be a part of an active social justice community led Martha to the Emerging Leaders program. She joined this program to develop a strong network and to foster collaborative work to move toward a more perfect Buffalo.
