Sofia Aletta graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 2017 with a degree in liberal arts concentrating in pre-medicine and biological sciences. More recently, Sofia graduated with her Master of Arts degree from New York University, specializing in Biological Anthropology.
Currently, Sofia is working in healthcare administration at UBMD Pediatrics. The terrorist attack on May 14, 2022, on the East Side of Buffalo inspired Sofia to develop the organization’s community outreach division. It began with Sofia hosting various safe space sessions for employees to meet and mourn together, with no judgement or pressures present. Following these initial efforts, Sofia spearheaded several community outreach initiatives, including two book drives (with all donated books going to UBMD Pediatrics clinic patients), the first annual backpack drive (with over 2,000 school supply items going to migrant children supported by Journey’s End Refugee Services). Sofia has worked to establish multiple partnerships with a number of local organizations, including Open Buffalo. She is excited to continue to grow in her efforts as an organizer and to strengthen our community.
Outside of work, Sofia is a nature lover and a hippie at heart. You can find her backpacking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, camping in Alleghany National Forest, or hiking in the Adirondacks; she has completed 7 of the 46 high peaks!
