Jennifer Arroyo (she/her) has been active in social work since working as an intern at Hispanos Unidos de Buffalo during her final college semester. She is an alumna of Buffalo State with a dual degree – BA in Theatre and BS in Social Work. She was hired to work with the unhoused population and from there has gained experience in various other areas of social work, including domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse, services for the elderly, Adult and Children’s Health Homes, the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), and crisis counseling. She currently serves as the Rapid Rehousing Lead Case Manager at The Salvation Army Buffalo Area Services location.
Personally, it was the birth of her son, who was born deafblind and was later diagnosed with autism and a rare genetic disorder, that really pushed Jennifer into the realm of advocacy. She is now a proud Emerging Leader and making waves participating in various meetings around the city focused on homelessness and solving the rising homeless crisis. She also serves as a board member for the WNY Coalition for the Homeless. If you ask Jennifer what her greatest achievement is, she will tell you it is being a wife and mother, which is her catalyst for all of the community advocacy work she does.
