Maddie Collins (they/them) works to support community, equity, and food justice in Buffalo. An AmeriCorps alum and self-proclaimed community enthusiast, they bring a unique and varied background to their work, including experiences in nonprofit research, disaster recovery, and even building “glamping” campsites. Maddie currently serves as the Community & Operations Director at Big Big Table Community Café, Buffalo’s first pay-as-you-can restaurant, where they help foster connection and dignity through accessible, nutritious meals.
Though they grew up in the Hudson Valley, Maddie has deep Buffalo roots and is committed to helping the "City of Good Neighbors" live up to its name. They strive to remain mindful of their privilege, using that awareness to foster more inclusive and equitable spaces in their community.
Music is central to Maddie’s life—they are a multi-instrumentalist who finds joy in using song to bring people together, especially in hard times. They live with their fiancée and two dogs and can often be found hiking local trails or belting show tunes at karaoke.
As part of Open Buffalo’s 2024 Emerging Leaders Program, Maddie is excited to deepen their skills in community organizing and leadership while continuing to make a positive impact in the city they love.
