In the middle of July, The Buffalo News published a story of the failed sure-thing development projects that have come in and out of Buffalo over the last several years. It is a good inventory, and a good counterpoint to the couple of cranes at work at the Harbor Center site.
Much like the recent New York Times article that highlights the development of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, it focuses on building construction as a signpost of crumbling illusions and shedding punch-lines.
However, as Jamil M. Barton wrote in today's opinion page: "economic development alone is not enough. Community development and revitalization are indispensable moving forward."
