Across the nation, communities are taking their fate into their own hands. During the last week of July, a contingent of community changemakers from Buffalo traveled to the Fearless Cities: North America Regional Municipalist Summit in New York City.
During the summit, India Walton (Community Organizer for Open Buffalo and board member for F.B. Community Land Trust) led an engaging and informative workshop titled “Strategies for Reclaiming Land for Communities.” Walton, and those in attendance, examined how grassroots partners in Buffalo are advancing the model of the community land trust in the historic Fruit Belt neighborhood -- making real progress in leveraging community power, keeping land in the hands of The People, and permanently removing land from the speculative market.
