Our High Road Economic Development (HRED) Table, currently working on Community Benefits Agreements, is certainly gaining momentum. Open Buffalo partner, Coalition for Economic Justice, has recently hired a new Organizer/Communications Director, Harper Bishop. Harper is now working closely with the HRED team to help develop and inform our strategies. 

In addition to our expanding table, we have empowered various subcommittees to move research and strategic planning along. We have a Parking Committee exploring solutions for the parking quandary within the Fruit Belt neighborhood; we have a Housing and Commercial Development Committee working on the development of a neighborhood plan to incorporate the needs of the residents first and foremost in the new developments rising near the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, and our Action Team is organizing activities to engage and educate the community.

Most recently, HRED partners and other Fruit Belt community groups have made their voices heard to Buffalo Common Council President Darius Pridgen and the City’s Office of Strategic Planning at community meetings, as the City has opened up the “Green Code” to receive feedback from the residents that these new laws will most directly impact.
