Be prepared for April 1, 2020
Every 10 years the U.S. Constitution requires we count every person in our nation. By April 1, 2020, every household will receive a notice to complete the 2020 Census. Why should you participate? Numbers matter! We receive federal funding per capita, meaning each person in our community receives a certain amount of funding. That’s why it’s so critical to make sure everyone in our community is counted. We need to make sure we receive a fair share in funding for our schools, health care, public safety, to create jobs, and support other community initiatives.
According to the 2020 Census, data collected in the Census will inform the distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds to states and communities each year. WOW!
Open Buffalo and our community partners working for a “complete count” encourage you to stand up and be counted. Talk to your friends, family and neighbors to ensure they have received the Census and plan to fill it out. Your data will be SAFE and won’t be shared with other institutions such as law enforcement, debt collection, or public assistance. Responding to the Census can be done via phone, online, or mail. It only takes a few minutes, but will have a lasting impact in your community. #StandUpAndBeCounted.
