Open Buffalo engaged a riveted audience of students from The University at Buffalo Law School on September 15, 2003. The seminar was led by UB Law Professor Sam Magavern, who brought students from his “Fighting Inequality” course to OB’s Jefferson Avenue location. The conversation was hosted by two UB Alumni, Devon Patterson, Director of Community Engagement and Dr. Kush K. Bhardwaj, Director of Racial Equity and Justice.
Patterson spoke at length on the history and mission of Open Buffalo and shared his nuanced understanding of what constitutes effective Community Engagement. Bhardwaj elucidated the complex process of the Race Power & Privilege Anti Racism Training and Assessment Program. Following a viewing of the Vice News Piece “Buffalo is still Reeling from Racist Massacre,” the group had a question and answer session to round out the hour.
