Open Buffalo’s Youth Action truly personify the notion of Changemakers. They all agree to work toward raising awareness about missing children in Buffalo and the vulnerabilities all youth have to being human trafficked. Youth Action members went through several trainings before any preparation was done for a town hall.
On November 20, Youth Action held a youth-led Q&A with four panelists from the community and the City of Buffalo. As the youth threw some heated questions at them, those in attendance could see that the youth are making efforts to build trust within their community, and unifying to keep children more safe than they are now.
In the process of that, they created an idea for an alert line called SOC (Save our Children) where community members are subscribed to a texting list that will share the descriptions and pictures of missing children in Buffalo. With research, partnerships and credible sources, Youth action is hoping to be able to create a city of not just good neighbors but safe neighborhoods too.
