West Side Emerging Leaders participants go through a training led by the Community Health Worker Network of Buffalo.
On June 9, West Side Promise Neighborhood, along with the support of PUSH Buffalo, Open Buffalo and the Buffalo State Center for Excellence in Urban and Rural Education, launched its inaugural leadership development program. The program, modeled after Open Buffalo’s Emerging Leaders program, will include 15 dynamic, passionate leaders — representing a diverse range of identities and from Buffalo’s West Side — who will complete an intensive curriculum that focuses on strengthening skills such as asset-mapping, coalition-building, media and communications, organizing, field work, and housing law.
Local partners from across the West Side worked together to develop the three-month program, which will include field experience and evening workshops. Over a 10-week period, leaders will have the opportunity to share their experiences and expand their networks.
Upon completion of the program, leaders will have the necessary skills to ensure that all West Side residents are able to reap the benefits of the economic revitalization that is sweeping through Buffalo.
